Backend developer
About the role
Mittanbud Marketplaces is looking for a backend developer to help us build and scale the leading marketplace for home services in the Nordics. We want someone who enjoys understanding how things work, solving real engineering challenges, and building robust systems.
This is an on-site position based in our Oslo office. While we offer some flexibility for working from home, we value the collaboration and strong team culture fostered by spending time together in our office.
You’ll work with big brands like Mittanbud, 3byggetilbud, and Servicefinder, and contribute to a platform that connects homeowners with professionals across four countries.
What you’ll work on
As part of our backend team, you’ll:
- Design, build, and maintain backend services
- Deploy, operate, and improve services in production
- Work on high-traffic systems used by thousands of customers daily
- Build new product features and contribute to long-term architectural improvements
- Improve developer experience and internal tooling
- Tackle performance, scaling, and reliability challenges
- Collaborate closely with colleagues across IT and product
Who we’re looking for
We welcome both experienced developers and early-career candidates, as long as you can demonstrate strong technical ability and have built something beyond basic tutorials.
You should have:
- Proven technical aptitude, demonstrated through production experience or substantial personal/open-source projects
- Experience with object-oriented programming (we use PHP, but knowledge of other object oriented languages is also fine)
- Solid SQL skills and an understanding of how to model and query data effectively
- Higher education, though relevant experience may compensate
- Curiosity and the ability to independently acquire new technical skills
- Ability to break down complex problems and reason about architecture, performance, and trade-offs
Bonus experience (nice to have):
- Docker and Kubernetes
- Elasticsearch & ELK stack
- MySQL (MariaDB)
- REST / GraphQL / WebSockets
- RabbitMQ
- Temporal
- Experience with DevOps and CI/CD
Personal qualities:
- Responsible and able to take ownership of your work in production
- Collaborative and enjoys discussing solutions
- Positive attitude and a good team player
- Curious, motivated, and willing to share knowledge
- Self driven and good at juggling multiple tasks
What we offer
We have a strong professional environment where enthusiasm and collaboration matter. You’ll have the opportunity to shape your role, build on your strengths, and grow according to your own goals.
We also organise regular hackdays and work actively to create a fun, supportive, and knowledge-driven workplace. We value our social environment, and you’ll be joining a team that enjoys working together, whether it’s over lunch, a tech discussion, or the occasional after-work activity.
We offer competitive compensation, great colleagues, and a product that genuinely helps people, all while giving you room to make a meaningful impact from day one.
